Vibe: Big beat-banging clubs are great, but sometimes they can start to feel like the Black Eyed Peas… the same old shit over and over until it’s just enough already. Enter Puffy’s Tavern, Tribeca’s long-time favorite spot, "where everybody knows your name," that can make your birthday party a great time, as well as avoid the annoyance of hearing Boom Boom Pow six times in one night.
Spot: True to its namesake, Puffy’s Tavern keeps it classy while maintaining the feel of a comfortable pub. This is not to say that the mahogany-clad, flat screen-dressed space doesn’t get packed with people ready to party, because believe us, it does. But there’s still room to grab a beer from their long and diverse list, or try one of their extra-strong Bloody Mary’s (“some of the most potent in the city”), and play some darts. However, the general rule of thumb in darts is when you can’t read the numbers on the board, it’s time to put the darts down.
Grub: Known as a spot to get a great slice of ellios pizza (why hasn’t any other bar thought of this?), Puffy’s also has daily bar food specials and incredible specialty Italian sandwiches from New York City’s own “Alidoro.”
The Deal: Sometimes you’re just sick of the pretentiousness inherent in New York City’s nightlife (every night isn’t an episode of Gossip Girl, after all). Puffy’s Tavern exists exactly for this reason. All bar and no attitude, Puffy’s is the spot to make your birthday party exactly what you want it to be: completely focused on playing darts for fake amounts of money, drinking good beer, and dancing to whatever 80’s song plays on the ol’ jukebox (and then more drinking).
