Spot: Located on the second floor of the Eventi Hotel, Bar Basque was designed by concept artist and “visual futurist” Syd Mead (set designer for Tron, and Blade Runner, and Aliens). The result is a space soaked in intrigue, from the red, space-age lounge to the arithmetical furniture to the “al fresco” dining area (the roof is retractable, so no matter the season, the outdoor vibe remains intact and the view gorgeous), Bar Basque makes a birthday party anything but ordinary.

Grub: The menu spans from classic to contemporary, with a focus on flawlessly prepared pintxos (tapas in the style typical of the Basque region); yellowfin tuna tartare with tomato veil, jamon toast, and red wine caviar, and piquillo peppers with peekytoe crab gratin are the kind of upscale fare you can expect. Entrees include options like suckling pig, Maine lobster, and a range of steaks. Bar Basque also hosts visiting chefs from the Basque region every other month, so this an especially enticing birthday party option for the culinary enthusiast. And of course, Bar Basque doesn’t skimp on the alcohol either: 32 wines are offered by the glass and cocktail options abound.
